NSCDC Rescues Five Pregnant Women from Imo Baby Factory

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) uncovered a 'baby factory' in Imo State, rescuing five pregnant women aged between 25 and 33. The operation was led by Mr.

Basil Igwebuez, who briefed the media about the recent exploit on a Saturday. The investigation began after a pregnant teenager escaped from an orphanage in the World Bank area of Owerri on March 14.

The NSCDC acted promptly, leading to the arrest of the orphanage owner, Tochukwu Ogaranya, and an alleged accomplice, Godwin Nnamdi, aged 47, for their involvement in child trafficking. Igwebuez described child trafficking as a heinous crime and urged residents to report suspicious activities to security agencies.

Ogaranya claimed that the orphanage was certified and not involved in child trafficking. One of the rescued women, identified as Chiamaka, alleged she escaped after being impregnated by a man in Abia State.

The suspects are set to be arraigned for prosecution.
