NSCIA Warns Against Religious Bias in El-Rufai's Prosecution

The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) issued a warning to the federal government and judiciary regarding the potential for religious prosecution of Malam Nasir El-Rufai, the former Governor of Kaduna State. In a statement released by its Secretary-General, Professor Is-haq Oloyede, the NSCIA cautioned against allowing individuals with vested religious interests to manipulate public institutions or the legal system for sectarian purposes.

The council had previously refrained from commenting on the ongoing prosecutions of El-Rufai, viewing them as standard judicial processes. However, it expressed growing concern over recent developments that suggested a possible underlying religious bias against him.

The NSCIA called for the federal government and judiciary to prevent any such manipulation and urged the public to avoid incendiary comments that could jeopardize El-Rufai's fair trial or worsen the security situation in Nigeria.
