NSDC CEO Clarifies Role of Nigeria Sugar Institute, Outlines Reforms

Kamar Bakrin, the CEO of NSDC, outlined the purpose of NSI as a research and training institution supporting Nigeria's sugar sector. NSI, established in 2019 and commissioned in 2021 in Ilorin, Kwara State, aims to provide technical support, including bio-factory tissue culture laboratories and seed cane supply.

Bakrin highlighted the institute's role in addressing challenges like plant material quality and capacity building. The reforms include appointing a repository to enhance NSI's functions and aligning with global best practices, with KPMG's support to strengthen governance systems.
