NSE Advocates Circular Economy for Environmental Solutions

The Kaduna State branch of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), led by Chairman Areg Samson Bawa, called on the federal government to consider circular economy principles to mitigate environmental pollution and lower costs while creating avenues for local enterprise development. This appeal was made during a workshop jointly organized with the Kaduna chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers on Tuesday.

Bawa highlighted that circular economy principles represent the best solution to address the nation's economic challenges. The workshop's theme focused on recycling dead laptop batteries to build lithium batteries, emphasizing the recovery of usable cells from discarded laptop batteries and their repurposing.

Nani Karay, Chairman of the Nigerian Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, explained that the workshop aimed to provide practical knowledge rather than just lectures, emphasizing the importance of proper battery maintenance to save costs and create additional income sources. The event also featured discussions on the environmental hazards posed by discarded batteries, which release toxic chemicals into groundwater.
