NSIB Issues Safety Recommendations After Enugu Air Incident

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) raised safety concerns after a runway overrun incident involving an Enugu Air Limited aircraft on July 23, 2026, in Benin, Edo State. The preliminary report indicated that the Embraer ERJ 170-100LR aircraft, with registration marks 5N-ENR, was operating scheduled flight ENU4264 from Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, to Oba Akenzua II Airport when it overran the runway at approximately 2:55 pm.

The aircraft had five crew members and 63 passengers on board, all of whom were evacuated safely using emergency escape slides. The NSIB issued four immediate safety recommendations, numbered A-2026-039 to A-2026-042, directed at the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, and Nigerian Meteorological Agency, addressing issues related to the runway-end environment, control tower line of sight, and meteorological information availability.

The investigation remains ongoing, with further technical examinations underway, and a preliminary flight path recreation video has been released for public transparency.
