NSIB Recovers Black Boxes from Delta Aircraft Incident

On June 10, 2026, the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) responded to an incident involving a Bombardier Challenger CL 601 aircraft, registered as N989BC and operated by VMO Aero Limited, which made an emergency landing on a roadway near Asaba, Delta State. Following the notification of the incident, NSIB activated its emergency response procedures and dispatched an investigative team to the site.

The bureau successfully retrieved the cockpit voice recorder (CVR) and flight data recorder (FDR), which are crucial for analyzing the circumstances surrounding the incident. Captain Alex Badeh Jr., the Director General of NSIB, emphasized the importance of these records in establishing the facts of the occurrence.

The investigation will include analyzing the recovered records, reviewing relevant documents, and interviewing personnel. No fatalities or serious injuries were reported, and the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority has suspended the aircraft's operating permit pending the investigation's outcome.
