NSIB Recovers Flight Recorders in Asaba Aircraft Probe

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has successfully recovered the cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder from a Bombardier Challenger CL 601 private aircraft, registered as N989BC and operated by VMO Aero Limited. The incident occurred on June 10, 2026, when the aircraft landed on a roadway near Asaba, Delta State, and subsequently departed the scene without regulatory approval.

Capt. Alex Badeh Jr., the Director General of NSIB, stated that the swift recovery of the flight recorders is critical for establishing the facts surrounding the incident.

The NSIB has initiated a full-scale investigation, which will include detailed analysis of the recovered flight records, examination of technical and operational records, interviews with relevant personnel, and a review of additional evidence. The bureau has also appealed to the public for any photographs, videos, or CCTV footage related to the incident to assist in the investigation, which aims to advance aviation safety in Nigeria without seeking to assign blame or determine liability.
