Nupe Elders Urge Language Preservation to Avoid Extinction

During a meeting held at the end of Ramadan Sallah festivities, Nupe elders, led by Alhaji Sidi Aliyu Yahaya, Chairman of the Nupe Foundation for Peace, Kaduna State Chapter, warned against the extinction of the Nupe language. They stressed the importance of teaching the language to children, highlighting that failure to do so would result in a loss of cultural identity and heritage.

The gathering included elders, scholars, and representatives of the Nupe people, who reflected on the need for cultural preservation and community development. Alhaji Sidi emphasized that it is the duty of parents to ensure the Nupe language is spoken at home.

Sheikh Muhammad Sallah echoed these concerns, praising the contributions of the Nupe people to modern Islamic education while cautioning that individual educational success should translate into community upliftment. The elders called for unity and collective progress within the community, warning that neglecting the language could weaken communal bonds.
