Leaders Urge Revival of Igbo Culture and Language

During a cultural carnival at Ebonyi State University, Governor Franci Nwifuru, former Governor Sam Egwu, and Vice Chancellor Prof. Michael Awok emphasized the urgent need to revive Igbo culture and language to prevent extinction.

The event, organized by the Ik Elechi Ogba Foundation, showcased African and Nigerian culture, particularly focusing on the heritage of the Ebonyi people. Nwifuru highlighted the importance of sustaining Igbo culture, especially the language, and raised concerns about attacks on traditional rulers, stressing the need for their protection.

Egwu described the killing of traditional rulers as unfortunate and unacceptable, noting their role as custodians of culture. Dr.

John Otu advocated for legal measures to protect traditional rulers, while Uchechukwu Agbo called for stronger collaboration between government and non-government organizations to preserve cultural heritage in Ebonyi and Nigeria. The event featured an art exhibit and the launch of a book titled "Echo of the Regal Throne.".
