NUPENG to Elect New President as Akporeha Exits

The National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) is preparing for the election of a new president as Comrade Akporeha announced his exit during a quarterly national executive council meeting held in Warri, Delta State. The election is scheduled to take place in Lagos, with Comrade Salimon Akanni Olad, a current national trustee and former chairman of the Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD) branch, expected to be elected as the new president.

This election will be historic as it marks the first time a member of the PTD branch will occupy the national presidency. Comrade Joseph Okafor, the zonal chairman of PTD NUPENG, moved a motion to unanimously ratify Olad's candidacy, which was seconded by Comrade Adekunle Akinlaja.

Akporeha expressed gratitude to the PTD members for their support during his eight-year tenure, emphasizing loyalty and commitment. He urged members to extend their support to Olad, who is expected to ensure unity and progress within the union.
