NUPRC Urges New PPL Holders to Prioritize Community Engagement

The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has called on newly awarded holders of Petroleum Prospect Licenses (PPL) to focus on community obligations and quick investments. This directive was issued by Chief Executive Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan during a signing ceremony in Abuja for the second batch of winners from the 2022-2023 mini bid round and the 2024 licensing round.

Eyesan stated that license holders must prioritize host community obligations to ensure the success of their licenses and are expected to execute approved work programs diligently while honoring financial commitments. The NUPRC aims to stimulate exploration activities and attract additional investments to accelerate the development of Nigeria's hydrocarbon resources, contributing significantly to the nation's energy security and economic development.

Enorens Amadasu, the commission's executive, urged licensees to adhere to their work program commitments, while legal advisor Olayemi Adeboyejo advised that new awardees should develop trust with host communities and embrace alternative dispute resolution methods.
