• Punch Newspapers • Business
The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), under the leadership of Chief Executive Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, has unveiled an ambitious reform agenda designed to enhance crude oil production and restore investor confidence in Nigeria's upstream oil sector. In a maiden interview published in the latest edition of Upstream Gaze, Eyesan outlined a technology-driven agenda focused on modernizing licensing processes and strengthening compliance. The reforms aim to achieve a production target of three million barrels per day by 2026, aligning with President Bola Tinubu's agenda. Key components of the reform include the deployment of a fully digitized regulatory ecosystem to eliminate bottlenecks, improve transparency, and ensure compliance with global best practices. The NUPRC plans to implement an end-to-end digital licensing platform, enhance data systems for real-time monitoring, and utilize analytics-driven compliance tools to improve oversight. These initiatives are expected to create a more predictable and competitive investment climate in Nigeria's upstream oil sector.
