Ebonyi Governor Nwifuru Eases Curfew in Amasiri Community

Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State announced the relaxation of the curfew in the Amasiri community, which was initially imposed following a deadly attack on January 29 in Okporojo village that resulted in four deaths and the burning of nine houses. The adjustment was made during a state security council meeting on Tuesday, where progress in ongoing investigations was discussed.

The new curfew hours will allow residents to move freely from 7 AM to 6 PM daily. Despite this relaxation, schools in Amasiri will remain closed pending the conclusion of investigations to prevent further unrest.

The governor emphasized the importance of community cooperation and assured residents that security agencies are working to restore stability. Additionally, the council indicated that suspects arrested in connection with the violence would face prosecution.

The governor also mentioned plans to dissolve the community leadership structure temporarily and shut down public facilities, including the Amasiri Development Centre.
