Ebonyi Governor Dissolves Amasiri Leaders Over Massacre

Governor Nwifuru of Ebonyi State dissolved the leadership of Amasiri Community in Afikpo Local Government Area and sacked appointees after a massacre that resulted in the brutal killing of four residents in Okporojo village of Edda Community. The governor condemned the violence and described the incident as tragic, stemming from a long-standing boundary dispute.

Despite reconciliation efforts, the lack of genuine commitment from the community led to the escalation of violence. Gov.

Nwifuru ordered the immediate dissolution of the Amasiri Development Union executive, withdrawal of traditional ruler certificates, removal of village heads, and dismissal of government appointees in the area. He emphasized the need for peace and security, urging calm among residents and promising support.

The governor expressed deep concern over the destruction in the community and pledged to improve security and living conditions. Sanctions were imposed on individuals, including a state commissioner and a tertiary education professor, for their roles in the crisis.
