Nwifuru Eases Amasiri Curfew, Demands Severed Heads Release

On Tuesday, Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru of Ebonyi State announced a relaxation of the 20-hour curfew in Amasiri, which will now be in effect from 7 PM to 6 AM daily. This decision followed a meeting of the Ebonyi State Security Council, which addressed ongoing security issues in the area.

The governor issued a 72-hour ultimatum for the release of severed heads, emphasizing that failure to comply would lead to undisclosed stringent measures. He stated that individuals arrested in connection with the crisis would be prosecuted without delay, rather than remaining in police custody.

The governor highlighted the government's commitment to protecting lives and property and mentioned that schools in the affected community would remain closed pending further review at the next security council meeting. The council's adjustments aim to restore normalcy in Amasiri and prevent escalation of conflict in the region.
