Ebonyi Governor Nwifuru Revives 60-Year-Old Veterinary Centre

Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has initiated the revival of a 60-year-old abandoned veterinary centre located in Izhianmbo. This project aims to create approximately 2,000 jobs and address current veterinary education, health, and agricultural needs.

During an inspection of the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES) Centre, Nwifuru noted that the facility had been neglected for six decades. The centre will cover 295 hectares and include a veterinary college, modern abattoirs, a hospital, grazing reserves for 2,000 herds, and farming areas for various livestock.

Contracts for 27 out of the planned 86 buildings, which will serve administrative purposes, student hostels, staff quarters, and lecture theatres, have been awarded, and construction is currently underway. Nwifuru mentioned that while some work has been delayed due to the rainy season, full construction is expected to commence in November.

He expressed gratitude for the community's cooperation, stating that no disruptions or theft have been reported by contractors.
