Enugu State Government Hires 160 Veterinary Workers

The Enugu State Government has engaged over 160 veterinary and paraveterinary doctors, laboratory scientists, and other professionals to revive and expand the livestock sector. Dr. Patrick Nwabueze, the Commissioner for Agriculture, announced this during a familiarisation meeting at the Ministry of Agriculture.

The recruitment fulfills Governor Peter Mbah’s vision to enhance the agricultural sector, particularly livestock production, and strengthen the necessary human resources. Nwabueze noted that the livestock sector has long suffered from a lack of professionals capable of providing essential veterinary and technical services.

The new workforce will help position Enugu to compete in livestock production, with plans to introduce technology and innovation to boost productivity. Dr. Ifeyinwa Nnajieze, the state Project Coordinator of the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES), stated that three of the newly engaged workers would be assigned to each of the 17 local government areas to provide livestock-related services.

Nnajieze urged the new employees to take their responsibilities seriously, warning against indiscipline.
