NYSC Denies Ransom Clause Claims, Ensures Corps Safety

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) responded to claims regarding a 'ransom clause' purportedly affecting corps members, describing the reports as false and misleading. Caroline Emba, the director of public relations, emphasized that there is no provision for a ransom clause in any official documents, categorically stating that such claims are entirely fictitious.

The NYSC's statement followed rising anxiety among families regarding the safety of corps members deployed across Nigeria, particularly in areas considered high-risk. The agency reassured families that it is working closely with security agencies to ensure the safety of corps members, implementing several protective measures, including military escorts when necessary.

The NYSC also noted that corps members who have completed their service are not affected by these claims. Furthermore, the agency highlighted welfare provisions, including life insurance policies and health insurance schemes for corps members.

The NYSC urged the public and media to verify information before sharing to prevent the spread of misinformation.
