NYSC DG Confirms Comprehensive Insurance for Corps Members

On Wednesday in Abuja, NYSC Director General Olakunle Nafiu reaffirmed that all corps members are covered by a comprehensive insurance package throughout their service year. This package includes life insurance and medical care, aimed at ensuring the welfare of corps members.

Nafiu explained that the federal government has implemented measures to guarantee a safe and memorable service experience. He cited past interventions, including payments of 28 million naira for a pregnant corps member's medical needs and 33 million naira for prosthetic arms for another corps member involved in a road crash.

Since 2004, every corps member has been covered by this insurance, which is activated upon the issuance of their call letters. Nafiu cautioned against the spread of unverifiable reports about the scheme and urged journalists to confirm facts with the NYSC public.

He also emphasized that the NYSC remains apolitical and non-religious, promoting national unity.
