Minister Clarifies NYSC Uniform Fabric Not Approved Yet

Ayodele Olawande, the Nigerian Minister of Youth Development, made a statement clarifying that the proposed adoption of Adire fabric for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) uniform has not yet been approved. This clarification came after media reports suggested that the federal government intended to replace the traditional khaki uniform with Adire.

Olawande explained that discussions surrounding the uniform are part of a broader reform agenda for the NYSC, aimed at making the scheme relevant to current realities, improving employment opportunities, and promoting entrepreneurship. He emphasized that no final decision has been made regarding the fabric design and that various options are being considered to ensure professional standards, national identity, durability, and cost-effectiveness.

The Minister urged Nigerians not to let the debate over the uniform overshadow the extensive reforms being pursued to empower youth and enhance service delivery within the NYSC.
