NYSC Reform: New Uniform and Major Overhaul Approved

The Federal Executive Council, chaired by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has approved a comprehensive reform of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), marking the first holistic review since its establishment 53 years ago. Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, announced this milestone on Monday following a council meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The overhaul aims to align the NYSC with Nigeria's current realities and development priorities. Key changes include a redesign of the NYSC uniform to reflect national pride, the introduction of a new graduation ceremony to replace the traditional passing out parade, and a fully technology-driven call-up process to better protect corps members.

Additionally, the six-week orientation program will emphasize leadership, entrepreneurship, and digital skills, with a focus on tailoring assignments to corps members' academic backgrounds. The government will also implement a skill-based primary assignment system and upgrade orientation camp standards.

Legal amendments to the NYSC Act will commence immediately to facilitate these changes.
