Minister Clarifies NYSC Uniform Change Not Approved

Ayodele Olawande, the Nigerian Minister of Youth Development, stated that the proposal to replace the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) khaki uniform with Adire fabric has not been approved by the federal government. His comments followed widespread reactions to a statement suggesting the adoption of Adire as part of ongoing reforms to the NYSC.

During an interview, Olawande explained that while he mentioned Adire as an example of potential options, no final decision has been made regarding the fabric's adoption. He urged Nigerians not to let the debate over the uniform overshadow the broader objectives of the NYSC reforms, which aim to improve employment opportunities, promote entrepreneurship, and enhance service delivery.

The proposed uniform change is part of a comprehensive overhaul of the 53-year-old NYSC scheme, which includes skill-based deployment of corps members and amendments to the NYSC Act.
