OAU Students Protest for Transport and Welfare Reforms

On April 28, 2026, students from Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in Ile-Ife, Osun State, staged a protest to address ongoing transport crises and poor welfare conditions affecting the campus community. The protest followed a resolution from a congress held on April 25, where union members, including President Adelani David and Secretary Habeeb Ok Isa, approved the demonstration in response to the challenges faced by students. The union emphasized a commitment to non-violence and urged orderly participation.

Key issues raised included transport difficulties, accommodation delays, and problems with the university's e-portal, which hindered students' ability to register for courses and access academic results. The Student Union also rejected plans to evacuate students from Awolowo Hall without adequate notice or alternative accommodation, criticizing the timing of such actions.

The protest aimed to demand urgent intervention from university management to restore normalcy.
