OAU Students Protest Transport Crisis and Welfare Issues

On April 28, 2026, students of Obafemi Awolowo University staged a peaceful protest to demand urgent action regarding ongoing transport crises and other welfare concerns. The demonstration, organized by the Student Union, was led by President Adelani David and Secretary Habeeb Ok Isa.

Students marched to the main gate, chanting and maintaining order, following a resolution from a congress held on April 25, 2026. The protest arose from dissatisfaction with multiple issues, including transport challenges and delays linked to the school's e-portal upgrade.

The Student Union also rejected plans for mid-semester evacuations of students from Awolowo Hall, criticizing the timing and lack of proper planning. The introduction of compressed natural gas vehicles aimed at improving campus mobility has created new challenges for students.

The protest followed a previous 72-hour lecture boycott held from April 14 to April 16, 2026, highlighting the ongoing struggles faced by students in their daily academic activities.
