Obi, Abure in War of Words Ahead of Nationwide Bye-Elections

Peter Obi and Julius Abure are engaged in a war of words ahead of nationwide bye-elections in 16 states. Obi, a potential 2023 presidential candidate, publicly urged his supporters to back the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate due to the Labour Party's absence on the ballot.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled elections for August 16 to fill vacant positions. Abure, the factional National Chairman of the Labour Party, issued a statement dismissing Obi's directive as misleading and accused him of attempting to weaken the party.

Abure affirmed that the Labour Party's candidate would still contest the election despite Obi's stance. The political standoff between Obi and the Labour Party adds tension to an already turbulent season ahead of the nationwide poll.
