Peter Obi Condemns School Attacks, Calls for Action

Former presidential candidate Peter Obi condemned the recent attacks on schoolchildren in Nigeria, specifically referencing incidents in Mussa Village, Askira Uba Local Government Area (LGA) in Borno State and Ahoro Esinel Community in Oriir LGA, Oyo State. In a statement issued on Saturday, Obi described the trend of school attacks as a deepening insecurity crisis that threatens the nation's future.

He expressed heartbreak over the inability to protect children, stating that they have become pawns in a ransom economy. Obi warned that repeated attacks on schools represent a direct failure to secure the right to education for children, particularly girls, who are often discouraged from attending school due to fear of abduction.

He called for stronger community intelligence and improved security measures to ensure the safety of educational facilities and hold perpetrators accountable. The statement came amid separate attacks in Borno, where insurgents stormed schools, abducting students and killing a teacher.
