Peter Obi Appeals for Release of Abducted School Children

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2027 general elections, has made a public appeal for the release of school children and teachers who have been held captive in Ibadan for two weeks. In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, Obi expressed his deep concern regarding the conditions of the abducted individuals, describing the situation as painful and reflective of the worsening insecurity in the country.

He emphasized the long-held warnings about poor governance and societal neglect leading to dire consequences for future generations. Obi linked the current security challenges to broader issues of leadership and public policy, arguing that decisions made by leaders today will have lasting impacts on future generations.

He made a direct appeal to the abductors, urging them to consider the innocence of the children and the anguish experienced by their families, and to release the victims without further delay.
