NDC Zones Presidential Ticket to Southern Nigeria

The Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially zoned its presidential ticket to Southern Nigeria, a move that is expected to bolster the chances of Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State. This announcement was made during the party's national convention held in Abuja, where prominent leaders, including former Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, were present.

The convention's agenda was shared with journalists, confirming the zoning decision and discussing amendments to the party's constitution for electing national executives. The NDC has recently experienced an influx of politicians defecting from other parties, including the African Democratic Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party.

Notably, 17 members of the House of Representatives defected to the NDC during a plenary session, including notable figures such as Yusuf Datti and Uchenna Okonkwo. Peter Obi, who was previously the presidential candidate for the Labour Party, formally joined the NDC, while Kwankwaso, a former presidential candidate for the New Nigeria Peoples Party, also received his NDC membership card during a closed-door meeting with party leaders.
