NDC Zones 2027 Presidential Ticket to Southern Nigeria

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially zoned its presidential ticket to Southern Nigeria for the upcoming 2027 elections, as announced during a national convention held in Abuja. This decision is expected to be ratified by party members.

The convention saw the attendance of notable opposition figures, including Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso. In a significant political shift, 17 members of the House of Representatives defected from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the NDC during a plenary session in the National Assembly.

Among the defectors were Yusuf Datti, Uchenna Okonkwo, Adamu Wakili, and others. Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso formally joined the NDC during a meeting with party leaders in Abuja, where former Bayelsa State Governor Seriake Dickson welcomed them.

Obi explained that internal crises and external interference had increased tensions within opposition parties, contributing to the decision to leave the ADC and join the Labour Party in December 2025.
