Obi Questions Tinubu's Security Assurances Amid Violence

Peter Obi, the former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has voiced significant concerns regarding the escalating insecurity in Nigeria, particularly questioning the assurances made by President Bola Tinubu. This reaction came after President Tinubu's visit to Plateau State on April 2, 2026, where he promised that the deadly attacks would not recur.

Obi's comments followed fresh attacks in Plateau State less than 24 hours after Tinubu's assurances, which he deemed contradictory. He also referenced recent violent incidents in Nasarawa State, where attacks resulted in deaths and property destruction, and highlighted mass abductions in Zamfara State and Borno State, including the notorious Chibok incident.

Obi pointed out that violence had also affected communities in Benue and Kaduna states, with numerous casualties reported. He criticized the government's failure to protect citizens, emphasizing that safeguarding lives and property should be the primary responsibility of the government, rather than mere promises that fail to materialize.
