Soludo's Finance Commissioner Sparks Debt Dispute with Obi

A podcast appearance by Izuchukwu Okafor, the Finance Commissioner for Anambra State under Governor Chukwuma Soludo, ignited a political conflict with former governor Peter Obi, who is also the presidential candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress. Okafor claimed that the Soludo administration was still repaying loans from previous governments, including Obi's tenure.

Obi has consistently asserted that he left office in 2014 without any debts, boasting of leaving N75 billion in cash and investments. In response, Obi challenged anyone to prove him wrong, prompting the Soludo government to investigate and release a statement by Dr. Law Mefor, the state Commissioner for Information.

This statement refuted Obi's claims, stating that he incurred approximately $4.05 billion in expenditures and contracted $123.77 million in external debt during his administration, which the current government is now servicing. The Soludo administration emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability in addressing Obi's allegations.
