Obi Calls for Nigerians to Reject Tinubu Over Power Failures

Peter Obi, the Labour Party's 2023 presidential candidate, has called on Nigerians to reject President Bola Tinubu in the next elections, citing failures in electricity supply as a key issue. Obi referenced Tinubu's own campaign promises made during the 2023 presidential campaign, where he pledged to provide constant electricity within four years.

Obi stated that if Tinubu fails to deliver on this promise, he should not be voted for a second term. He pointed out that when Tinubu assumed office in 2023, Nigeria's power supply was at 4,000 megawatts, which has since declined, with average supply now falling below that figure.

Obi also noted that electricity tariffs have risen, while Nigeria's per capita electricity consumption stands at 144 kilowatt-hours, significantly lower than the African average of 617 kWh. He criticized Tinubu's leadership, highlighting a recent incident at an airport where a lack of electricity limited Tinubu's visit to ten minutes, framing it as evidence of a leadership class detached from the hardships faced by citizens.
