Obidient Movement Backs Obi, Kwankwaso's Defection

The Obidient Movement, through its nation coordinator Yunusa Tanko, has defended the recent defection of former presidential candidate Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC). Tanko described this move as bold and necessary, driven by the toxic political climate and legal uncertainties that made candidacy within the ADC unworkable.

He emphasized the importance of acting to protect democratic participation and strengthen the opposition in Nigeria's current political situation. Tanko noted the tight timelines faced by candidates, particularly with the electoral process deadlines approaching.

He highlighted that the window for submission closes on May 4, with significant adjudication expected within five days, making it impractical to resolve legal disputes in time. He expressed full support for Obi and Kwankwaso's decision, stating that it was a courageous step essential for the survival of Nigerian democracy.
