Hep Group Urges Delta Governor for Inclusive Governance

The Hep group has called on Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State to fulfill his promise of equitable and inclusive governance, particularly for the Ijaw and Itsekiri ethnic groups in Warri North. In a statement, the group emphasized the need for urgent actions to reverse historical injustices faced by the Egbema people, who have been marginalized in local governance since the creation of Delta State in 1991.

They pointed out that leadership positions in Warri North have predominantly favored the Itsekiri community, with the Ijaw people having held the chairmanship only for three years in nearly 35 years. The Hep group stressed that the current administrative structure does not reflect the federal character principles outlined in Section 14(3) of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria, which mandates that government representation should reflect the diversity of the nation.

They urged Governor Oborevwori to take immediate steps to ensure fair representation and uphold the constitutional provisions that guarantee inclusivity for all citizens in Warri North.
