Kogi's Ovia Osese Festival Set for Revenue Boost in 2026

Dr. Gabriel Aiso, the president of the Odu Descend Union, called on the Kogi State government to capitalize on the Ovia Osese cultural festival as a means of revenue generation.

Speaking in Lokoja on Monday, Aiso highlighted the festival's potential to position Kogi State on the global cultural tourism map. The 2026 edition of the festival is set to take place from April 12 to April 18, with the grand finale scheduled for April 18.

Aiso emphasized the need for proper organization and government support to transform the festival into a significant revenue-generating venture. He noted that the festival, recognized by UNESCO, could yield substantial benefits for the government and the people if managed effectively.

The proposed budget for the 2026 festival is 100 million naira, with 40% allocated directly to the festival and the remaining 60% earmarked for community development projects aimed at improving the welfare of the Ogori kingdom's residents. The festival will also serve as a platform to promote social values, particularly the empowerment of girls in Ogori society.
