Ogidi Seeks Suspension of FCT Election Tribunal Judgment

Dr. Paul Mose Ogidi, representing the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the recent FCT council elections, has requested the immediate suspension of a proposed judgment from the FCT election tribunal.

He cites unresolved jurisdictional issues surrounding the tribunal's composition, alleging that it violates Section 135(3) of the Electoral Act 2026, which requires the inclusion of a High Court judge in the tribunal's composition. Ogidi's legal team argues that the alleged defects raise fundamental questions about the tribunal's competence to hear and determine the matter.

On April 10, 2026, Ogidi submitted a petition to the Chief Judge of the Federal Capital Territory requesting the reconstitution of the tribunal in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act but received no response. He further submitted a petition to the Chief Justice of Nigeria on May 21, 2026, seeking urgent intervention.

Ogidi warns that the tribunal's lack of jurisdiction could invalidate its proceedings and affect the integrity of Nigeria's electoral justice system.
