Ogun State Disburses N6bn to Empower 3,855 Women Groups

The Ogun State Government, in partnership with the Federal Government and the World Bank, has commenced the disbursement of N6 billion from the Community Investment Fund to 3,855 women affinity groups across four local government areas as part of the Nigeria for Women Programme Scale-Up. Governor Dapo Abiodun, represented by Motunrayo Adeleye, the immediate-past Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, stated that the fund aims to transition women from subsistence activities to sustainable enterprises.

The governor revealed that the beneficiary groups have collectively saved N2.6 billion over the past seven months, with loans accessed exceeding N4 billion. He clarified that the N6 billion is a revolving financing facility, not an outright grant, intended to support business establishment and expansion.

The initiative is an extension of the Nigeria for Women Project, which began in December 2020, establishing 3,792 women affinity groups across 1,003 communities. The Scale-Up phase has now expanded to seven local government areas, forming 5,394 groups and reaching 124,062 women as of September 21, 2026.
