Ogun State Government Targets Unapproved Motorcycle Groups

The Ogun State Government has begun a crackdown on unapproved motorcycle operators’ associations, instructing them to immediately halt illegal revenue collection from commercial motorcycle operators. The government recognizes only three associations—ROMO, AMORAN, and ACCOMORAN—as authorized to operate on public roads and parks in Ogun State.

In a statement from Kayode Akinmade, Special Adviser to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Information and Strategy, the government condemned the activities of unapproved associations, stating they violate the state’s regulatory framework and threaten public order. The government specifically identified ANACOWA and AKMODE Transport Limited as unapproved groups not authorized to conduct revenue activities.

It clarified that registration with the Corporate Affairs Commission does not grant a license for commercial operations or tax collection. The government also addressed a March 28, 2023, judgment by Justice Akinyemi, which affirmed the right to freedom of association but did not authorize commercial motorcycle operations.

Consequently, all unapproved associations must cease unauthorized activities or face regulatory violations.
