Ogun State Cracks Down on Unapproved Motorcycle Associations

The Ogun State Government has launched a crackdown on unapproved motorcycle operators’ associations, instructing them to stop illegal revenue collection from commercial motorcycle operators. The government recognizes only three associations—ROMO, AMORAN, and ACCOMORAN—as authorized to operate on public roads and parks.

It has identified ANACOWA, AKMODE Transport Limited, and other groups as unapproved and unauthorized by the Ogun State Ministry of Transportation to conduct revenue activities. The government clarified that registration with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) does not grant a license for regulated commercial operations or tax collection.

It addressed a March 28, 2023 judgment by Justice Akinyemi, stating it affirmed the right to freedom of association but did not authorize commercial motorcycle operations or revenue collection. The government has directed all unapproved associations to cease their activities immediately, warning that continued operations will be treated as violations of the regulatory framework.
