Ondo State Government Bans Okada Operations in Akure

The Ondo State Government has implemented a ban on the operation of commercial motorcycles, known as okadas, on certain routes in Akure, the state capital. This decision, announced by Olumuyiwa Ogunyemi, the Special Adviser to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa on Transport, aims to improve traffic management.

The government plans to prosecute motorists and motorcycle riders who violate traffic regulations, especially concerning traffic light signals. Ogunyemi stated that motorcycle operators would be restricted to designated points, with specific routes outlined for compliance.

The government is also intensifying enforcement of traffic laws following public enlightenment campaigns related to new infrastructure projects, including ongoing flyover construction. Ogunyemi emphasized the need for road users to adapt to modern traffic management systems and warned that violations would lead to arrest and prosecution.

Additional traffic management facilities, such as zebra crossings and speed limit signs, will be installed to enhance road safety.
