Ogun Deputy Governor Salako-Oyedek Seeks Senate Seat

Noimot Salako-Oyedek, the Deputy Governor of Ogun State, has officially picked up the All Progressives Congress (APC) nomination form to contest for the Ogun West senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections. This announcement was made in a statement available on Wednesday.

Salako-Oyedek's decision comes amid growing political realignments within the Ogun APC, particularly following the party's recent endorsement of Governor Dapo Abiodun as the consensus candidate for the Ogun East senatorial ticket. The political landscape in Ogun State is shifting, especially in Ogun West, as various stakeholders are engaged in discussions about the upcoming elections.

Salako-Oyedek has previously been considered a potential successor to Governor Abiodun for the governorship position, but she is now focusing on securing a senatorial seat. The competition for the Ogun West ticket is expected to intensify, with other aspirants including former Senator Gbolahan Dada and Waliu Taiwo.

Salako-Oyedek's candidacy is also seen as a move to promote gender inclusivity in a state that has not produced a female senator since Iyabo Obasanjo left the Senate in 2011.
