Gbenga Daniel Defies APC Consensus, Seeks Senate Nomination

Gbenga Daniel, a two-term former governor of Ogun State, has expressed his intention to run for re-election by purchasing a nomination form for the Ogun East senatorial district, despite the All Progressives Congress (APC) adopting current governor Dapo Abiodun as its consensus candidate for the upcoming 2027 elections. This decision follows a recent caucus meeting held in Ijebu Ode, where party leaders preferred Abiodun as the consensus candidate.

Daniel reportedly denied access to the meeting venue, leading to his decision to pursue his candidacy independently. Olufemi Nuberu, the APC state public secretary, addressed claims of internal division within the party during an interview, asserting that the party remains united despite growing speculation about factionalism.

Nuberu dismissed the claims as exaggerated and lacking credible evidence, emphasizing that no formal complaints had been filed regarding the exclusivity of the meeting.
