Federal University of Technology, Ilaro, expands programs for 2027

The Federal University of Technology, Ilaro, Ogun State, is targeting the 2027/28 academic session for its official take-off as a university, expanding its academic offerings from 34 to over 100 programs since Dr Mukail Akinde became Acting Vice-Chancellor on September 27, 2022. The institution has grown from fewer than 10,000 to over 27,000 students during this period.

The transition from the former Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, is being managed strategically, with committees led by Professor Ramon Bello and Dr Charlotte Bose Iro-Idoro making significant progress. The university has established eight specialized schools, including the new School of Agriculture and the School of Art, Design and Printing Technology.

Akinde noted several technological breakthroughs, including a patented 3-in-1 electric tricycle and an IoT-integrated solar egg incubator. The new programs aim to support industrial growth, particularly in collaboration with Dangote Cement Plc.
