Ogun Monarch Backs Iyabo Obasanjo for Governorship Bid

During a private visit on Saturday, a monarch in Ogun State declared support for Iyabo Obasanjo, daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, emphasizing the significant contributions of women in leadership roles. The monarch noted that the achievements of women like Efunsetan Aniwura and contemporary figures should inspire political change.

He praised Iyabo Obasanjo's philanthropic work through the Iyaniwura Foundation, which has significantly contributed to human capacity development in the state. While the monarch acknowledged the visit as a personal gesture rather than a formal endorsement, he urged men to reconsider the political landscape to allow more women to participate.

Iyabo Obasanjo, who has returned to active politics after 15 years, has declared her intention to contest the 2027 governorship election under the platform of the APC. The visit included discussions on collaboration among Ogun's senatorial districts and was accompanied by notable APC members.
