Ogun IRS Clarifies Tax Reform Laws to Enhance Compliance and Fairness

The Ogun State Internal Revenue Service (OGIRS) addressed speculations surrounding the Tax Reform Act 2025 during a public lecture at Olabisi Onabanjo University. The Executive Chairman, Olugbenga Olaley, and the Coordinating Director, Taiwo Ogundimu, reassured the public about the positive implications of the new tax laws.

The reform, signed by President Bola Tinubu in June 2025, includes four major tax laws aimed at overhauling Nigeria's fiscal framework. The reform focuses on personal income taxation and seeks to simplify tax laws, broaden the tax base, and modernize compliance to promote transparency and fairness.

The event, attended by various dignitaries including the Vice-Chancellor of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Prof. Ayodeji Agboola, emphasized the importance of understanding taxation for public policy.

The guest speaker, Lukman Buari, highlighted the need for taxpayers to keep accurate records to avoid misconceptions and emphasized civic responsibility in tax compliance.
