Ogun Polytechnic Hosts Summit to Combat Insecurity

Ogun Polytechnic convened a security summit on Thursday to address the increasing insecurity in the region, particularly concerning student safety amid recent incidents of kidnapping and armed robbery. The summit, held in the institution's boardroom, was attended by security agencies, government representatives, community leaders, traditional rulers, youth groups, and student leaders.

Dr. Sanni Kehinde, the rector of the institution, emphasized the urgent need for proactive engagement and collaborative strategies to tackle the security challenges faced by the community.

Adedayo Musari, the dean of student affairs, recounted a recent armed robbery that resulted in the death of a student. He noted that five students had been kidnapped but were later rescued by the Ogun State Police Command.

The summit also discussed the alarming statistics of robbery cases and fatalities among students in the area. Dare Odufowokan, a senior special assistant to the governor, called for collaboration among stakeholders to address insecurity, while Olufunso Afolabi, chairman of the local development council, condemned the attacks and suggested measures to enhance security.
