Ogun State Releases N6.75 Billion for Retiree Benefits
The Ogun State Government has allocated N6.75 billion to settle gratuity and Additional Pension Benefits (APB) owed to retirees. Olanrewaju Saka, the Head of Service, announced this on a Friday in Abeokuta.
The funds are part of the government's initiative to reduce outstanding pension obligations and enhance the welfare of retired public workers. Specifically, N2.751 billion is designated for gratuity payments to 432 beneficiaries, while N4 billion is allocated for Additional Pension Benefits to eligible retirees from July 2025 to the present.
The APB scheme was introduced to address discrepancies between the old Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS) and the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS). Saka clarified that APB payments are distinct from funds in retirees' Retirement Savings Accounts (RSAs) and do not diminish those savings.
The latest payment follows pension-related concerns that previously led to an industrial dispute between the Ogun State Government and organized labor in July 2025.
