Ogun State Government Suspends Awujale Selection Process Over Security Concerns

The Ogun State Government has suspended the selection process for the new Awujale of Ijebuland citing security issues and criticism from security agencies and stakeholders. The decision was communicated in a letter dated January 20, 2026, by the State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ganiyu Hamzat, to the Chairman of Ijebu Ode Local Government Area.

The government emphasized the need for proactive measures to maintain law and order, invoking the Oba and Chiefs Law of Ogun State 2021. The immediate suspension aims to prevent a breakdown of law and order in the selection process.
