Nigeria's 2025 Oil Licensing Round Targets Major Growth

The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) is conducting a 2025 upstream oil licensing round with ambitious targets to add 500 million barrels to the country's reserves and increase crude oil production by 300,000 barrels per day within three years. A total of 143 companies submitted 200 bids for 37 of the 50 blocks offered.

Stakeholders emphasize that achieving these objectives relies on attracting investment, protecting oil assets, addressing crude oil theft, and ensuring stability in the Niger Delta. The Federal Government has engaged Tantita Security Services Nigeria Ltd, led by High Chief Government Ekpemupolo (alias Tompolo), to enhance security and protect oil infrastructure in the region.

Improved surveillance has reportedly reduced pipeline vandalism and theft, contributing to more stable production levels. Muda Yusuf, CEO of the Centre for the Promotion of Private Enterprise, stated that securing existing oil assets is crucial for Nigeria's energy transition agenda and overall economic stability.
