Ojukwu Receives 2026 UTA Humanitarian Award in Abuja

Chief Tony Ojukwu, the Executive Secretary of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), was awarded the 2026 UTA International Humanitarian Award for his leadership in promoting and protecting human rights in Nigeria. The award was presented by the United Towns Agency (UTA), for North-South Cooperation Nigeria Chapter, during World Humanitarian Day 2026 celebrations in Abuja.

UTA, a United Nations-affiliated NGO, acknowledged Ojukwu's contributions to advancing human dignity and justice for marginalized individuals. A press statement from Fatimah Agwai Mohammed, Director of Corporate Affairs and External Linkages, highlighted NHRC's interventions, including economic empowerment for victims of human rights violations and restorative justice initiatives in the North-East.

Ojukwu remarked that the award serves as a reminder of the significance of humanitarian service in enhancing the lives of ordinary Nigerians and motivates him to further his humanitarian efforts.
